Dr. Kelly H. Paik
is a Seattle based artist. After a career as a journalist &
producer for a National, Korean Broadcasting Systems in Seoul, Korea,
she came to US for higher education. After receiving Doctoral degree in Mass Communication at
Syracuse University, Syracuse, New York, she moved on to an academic career as a Professor at the University of
Oklahoma teaching and research in Mediated Communications. In the year 2000, she and her
family moved to Seattle, Washington, joined the University of
Washington, and then went on the pursue and dedicate herself to Arts.
Her
paintings are often inspired by the physical environment (sea, sky, cloud,
land scapes) she lives in, everyday objects that surrounds her, fused with
her past images and memories. Her paintings are derived from
intuition, memory, and direct observation. Living in Seattle with its
beautiful nature where there are waters (Sound) and mountains everywhere she
looks, she paints what impresses her and naturally demand pause and close
examination. Shapes, colors, textures mesmerizes her - be it nature,
or still life objects that she collects. That is the theme of her
paintings.
